Where did It's About Time disappear?

Where did It's About Time disappear?

You didn't see an issue of IAT for more than a month. With 0 word from me. And that sucked a lot.

On a random Thursday about a month ago, I woke up to see that It's About Time was gone. Poof. More than three years of work. I immediately went into panic mode and checked my email where I got the message that said my account on beehiiv, the service I use to send out the newsletter has been suspended for breach of terms of service. I have no idea why. I assume the most common breaches (and I guess most serious) are sending out spam emails and adding people to the list without their approval. I never did any of those two things. The only communication I got from beehiiv was they can't tell what the breach was, "for their security".

At first I was certain that it was some sort of AI spam prevention thing that accidentally caught my newsletter and that it would be restored in hours. But no, they've been adamant that I'm banned. I was planing on moving from the platform anyway because their CEO is a right wing tech bro, and with each update the service was getting worse and worse, obviously being tailored just to raise more money from investors instead of making a good product.

The only issue was, the ban also meant that all of my subscriber data and posts were locked with them. Sure, I knew that I could get them out because they legally had to let me have them, but I didn't know it would take so much time. I was also hoping that they would withhold the many thousands of dollars of ad revenue the newsletter earned and I never withdrew. But no luck, despite a lawyer's letter.

Then it took equally as long to set up with a new service. But here we are, with the new IAT before you. It will take a few more days to get everything polished and perfect, but I'm already 100 times happier with Ghost than I was with beehiiv.

What's next? I can tell you that one things is not changing – the newsletter will still come out five times a week, with all the new watches that I can find to cover.

But paid subscribers might have noticed that I was a bit slow on writing the additional daily articles. That's because they were a ton of work and I wasn't exactly having much fun with it. That's why I'm introducing a brand new IAT publication – The Caseback. This will be a weekly magazine-style email newsletter, landing in your inbox on Saturday, with the idea of giving you something long-form to read for the weekend.

The Caseback will be delivered to paid subscribers (with the first issue going out to everyone), so if you want to get a bunch of really cool extra content and support It's About Time, I am running a sale on both monthly and yearly subscriptions.
