It seems that Oris has turned the Aquis into its main vehicle for environmental causes. Recent limited editions have backed a campaign to protect the Yangtze finless porpoise and a project restoring oyster reefs in New York Harbor, and each one pairs a standard Aquis with a themed dial and a partner organisation. The Aquis itself is Oris’s everyday dive watch, made even popular with the addition of the date on the, you guessed it, Aquis Date. This new edition was made with Francis Pérez, an underwater photographer and longtime Oris ambassador, and it focuses on kelp forests, which are shrinking in many coastal waters. Kelp provides habitat for a huge range of sea life and pulls carbon out of the water, so its loss matters well beyond the fish that live in it.

The case is the Aquis Date that Oris reworked in 2024, with reshaped lugs and a better bracelet. It’s 41.5mm wide and 12.9mm thick, in steel with mixed brushed and polished finishing, and water resistant to 300 meters. The unidirectional bezel has a green ceramic insert with a full minute scale. The sapphire is domed and AR coated on its underside, and the screw-in caseback is engraved with kelp.

The dial is green, with a printed texture that has real depth and is meant to look like kelp moving in a current. It shifts between green and gold and it looks very good. The applied markers and the hour and minute hands are outlined in gold and filled with Super-LumiNova, and the seconds hand has a lumed lollipop. The date remains unchanged at six.

Inside is the Oris calibre 733, based on the Sellita SW200-1\. It beats at 4Hz with a 41-hour power reserve and hacking seconds. The steel bracelet matches the case finishing and closes with a folding clasp that has a quick-adjust system.
