Mido Gives the Multifort TV Big Date a Chronometer Certificate and a New Checkerboard Dial
Mido brought back the Multifort TV in 2023. It’s a steel watch with a rounded rectangular case shaped like an old television screen and an almost integrated bracelet. It's also most likely the best watch shape that Mido puts out. It's very retro, very modern and I love pretty much every single variant they make. This latest one is based on the Big Date, my favorite, and it's the Big Date Chronometer, which adds COSC certification and a redesigned dial, all with the great price we expect from the brand.

The case hasn’t changed. It’s 40mm wide, 11.5mm thick, with a lug-to-lug of 46.85mm, in steel with brushed surfaces and polished edges. The front sapphire crystal is anti-reflective treated on both sides, and there’s a sapphire display back. The crown screws down and the watch is rated to 100 meters.

There are two dials, blue sunburst and a near-monochrome dark grey. Both get a new pattern of small rectangles laid out like a checkerboard, imitating some of the big boys, but not in a corny way. The hands and applied markers are faceted and filled with Super-LumiNova. The minute scale has moved to a stepped flange, with numerals every five minutes. The date window at 12 now has an applied frame, and “Chronometer” is printed on the dial.

Inside is the Mido Calibre 80 COSC, based on the ETA C07.651, which is the Swatch Group’s Powermatic 80 and a descendant of the ETA 2824. It beats at 3Hz and famously runs for 80 hours. A Nivachron hairspring helps against magnetism, temperature swings and shocks, and COSC certification guarantees accuracy between -4 and +6 seconds a day. Mido has also put more effort into the visible finishing, with blued screws and Côtes de Genève on the rotor, which is also marked “Chronometer.” The bracelet is brushed with polished center links and closes with a push-button folding clasp.
The Mido Multifort TV Big Date Chronometer is available in blue (ref. M049.567.11.041.00) and grey (ref. M049.567.11.051.00) for €1,550. See more on the Mido website.
