Just Because: Here Are Some Nice Haloween Watches
It’s that time again—Halloween.
I only apologize slightly for that pun.
What is special about this particular holiday is we are allowed to represent what we like, dress as we like, and support anything from the silly to the macabre as we like. It is a time to be your truest self and to allow every article of clothing and every accessory to play a part in who you want to be without a second thought.
As someone embracing representing themself better through accessories, of course watches came to mind. I only recently bought my first official everyday staple (a Citizen Axiom with a mother of pearl dial and 28mm case), but this particular time of year feels like a time to be more ambitious with expressing yourself. It is a time of change and a shifting of the seasons, plus a reason to represent your very own brand of so-called “weird”.

I have enjoyed the Mr. Jones watches for some months now, eying them with fascination at their creativity. The Last Laugh in particular caught my attention with what initially looks like a simple style but, upon closer inspection, has a very unique and easy-to read appearance. It is, in their words, in tradition of “memento mori” with sapphire glass and a 316L stainless steel case. While it might remind the wearer of the finality of life, its skull face sitting with beautiful contrast to the teeth's time-telling function, this is a watch that will never die thanks to its 20 jewel automatic mechanical movement. At least some things are guaranteed beyond death and taxes?

For those of you interested in more colorful options or just have a style all your own, there are plenty to choose from. The Monster Melter and Richocet are both fun designs that are offered in a medium/unisex size that caters to a wide audience while also being within an affordable budget considering the amount of attention to detail and quality mechanics provided. Want a vibrant green octopus-like alien or robots playing pinball? They have you covered. Like their Last Laugh sibling, they feature sapphire glass, a 316L stainless steel case, and are waterproof. Not so monstrous for anyone in search of a new, fun timepiece.

As brands continue to embrace “strange and unusual” (Thank you, Beetlejuice), we are gifted with more options that can be fitting for everyone. Swatch and Timex have their own Halloween collections while Citizen and Spinnaker offer styles that can easily blend between spooky season to everyday lifestyle. I am particularly a fan of the Timex Weekender of the Dead watch with its beautifully colored dial highlighting the iconic skull graphic, their INDIGLO® backlight feature, and scratch- and water-resistance. Though its 40mm case is a bit on the larger side for me, the beauty of its face cannot be denied.
Speaking of the Day of the Dead, we recently highlighted Mido’s The Day of the Dead selection. I am again reminded about the beauty and vibrancy of this holiday, and is another reminder of artistry the creators of these pieces have made, from the color selection to, in this particular face, the three shades of Super-LumiNova. The etchings on its face, however, truly bring it the most character for me. It feels well-thought out and loving of this holiday.
Whatever you’re looking for and however you want to dress up, there is something for everyone. Embrace yourself this season and, hopefully, every season beyond. It’s about time to.
