# Jaeger-LeCoultre Gives Us The Gold Master Ultra Thin Moon In 36mm

When Jaeger-LeCoultre brought the steel Master Ultra Thin Moon back at 36mm, the obvious question was when gold would follow. Until now, gold buyers only got 39mm, which was fine but never quite right for a polished, traditional moonphase on an alligator strap. Dress watches across the industry have been getting smaller for a few years, and this is the model that most needed it.

The case is 36mm wide and 9.3mm thick, in 18k pink gold polished on every surface. There’s sapphire crystals front and back, with the caseback held down by screws. Water resistance is 50 meters, which is all a gold moonphase really needs. At 39mm this model always wore a little too modern for gold. 36mm suits it.

The dial is silver with a sunray brush. The indices are applied, faceted trapezoids, the hands are Dauphine shaped, and the minute track is beaded, all in gold tone. The moonphase and pointer date share one subdial at six. The movement is the same as in the 39mm, so in the smaller case that subdial sits close to the edge and there’s no room for a six o’clock marker. Nothing else here will surprise you, and nobody buys this collection for surprises.

Inside is the in-house calibre 925, beating at 4Hz with 70 hours of power reserve. It’s 4.9mm thick and you can see it through the back, decorated with Côtes de Genève, blued screws, and an openworked 22k pink gold rotor. The strap is black alligator with quick-release bars and a pink gold pin buckle.
