## 👂What’s new

### 1/ Casio Shrinks Down The Edifice To Create A Collection Of Very Elegant 38mm Three-Handers

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/98/15/981552fd-1b67-4d3c-8ad7-fc38a52bf9fb/content/images/2026/10/Casio_EdificeEFR109_1100x667_1-1.jpg)

Edifice has always been kind of Casio's performance line, best known for chronographs with tachymeter scales and super busy dials that convey as much information as possible. But what happens when Casio wants to do something different with the Edifice. Something, perhaps, a bit simpler? Well, the EFR-109 drops all of that complexity for three hands, a date and a small steel case. And, it has a very retro look to it.

The stainless steel case measures 38mm wide and 9.2mm thick, slimmer than nearly anything else in the Edifice collection right now. The crystal is box-shaped mineral glass rather than sapphire, which is expected at this price, and that domed profile does most of the vintage work. When I say it's expected at this price, I'm not talking about a $800 Seiko with mineral glass. This thing is truly priced in the mineral glass category. Water resistance is 100 meters, and that's pretty good, again, considering the price.

Four dials are available for this model. Black and blue are plain with silver trim. Green gets gold accents, a black outer ring and a white minute track, which is a lot of contrast. All three of those have a sunray brushed finish. Then, there's the flat cream color, and it's the best of the set: black chapter ring, beige lume on the hands and an orange tip on the seconds hand. It has an almost effortless 1960s look to it. All four get applied indices, luminous hands and a date window at three.

Casio lists only a Japanese quartz movement, no calibre, but it's a simple quartz, do you need more info? Black, blue and green come on a three-link steel bracelet with a folding clasp. Cream gets a brown perforated leather strap with contrast stitching and a pin buckle.

The Casio Edifice EFR-109 costs €119 in all four colors, with the final figure varying by country depending on VAT. It goes on sale very soon. ### 2/ The Oris And Cervo Volante Collab Is Back With A Burgundy Dial 40mm Pointer Date

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/98/15/981552fd-1b67-4d3c-8ad7-fc38a52bf9fb/content/images/2026/10/Oris-x-Cervo-Volante-01-1.jpg)

Switzerland culls roughly 15,000 red deer a year to stop them from stripping its alpine forests. Cervo Volante, a Swiss leather company, takes the hides that would otherwise be thrown away, and repurposes them into a wide variety of products. For the past four years, they've been working with Oris to make special edition watches with red deer hide straps. The latest result is a steel 40mm Big Crown Pointer Date with a burgundy dial.

The case is 40mm wide and 12.2mm thick, with a lug-to-lug of 48.2mm, which means that it might exclude the smaller wrists among us. Oris polishes the coin-edge bezel and brushes the tops of the lugs, which gives us a pretty fantastic contrast. The oversized crown screws down, the sapphire is domed on both sides with anti-reflective coating, and the back is mineral glass. Water resistance is 50 meters.

The dial is all burgundy, and right now it's one of my favorite dial colors. Cathedral hands and old-style Arabic numerals give it a bunch of character, and the numerals, hands and minute markers are all filled with stark white Super-LumiNova. The date runs around the edge, pointed to by a red-tipped central hand.

Inside is the Oris calibre 754, a Sellita SW 200-1 with a pointer-date module added. It beats at 4Hz, holds 41 hours of reserve, hacks, and is wound with the familiar red Oris rotor. The strap is dark brown deerskin, vegetable-tanned at one of Switzerland's few remaining tanneries of that kind, with natural marks left in. It's soft, it will age quickly, and will look fantastic.

The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date x Cervo Volante is not a limited edition, it's available now and it's priced at CHF 2,250\. See [more photos here](https://www.itsabouttime.email/the-oris-and-cervo-volante-collab-is-back-with-a-burgundy-dial-40mm-pointer-date/) and the watch [on the Oris website](https://www.oris.ch/en-HR/product/watch/big-crown/big-crown-pointer-date/01-754-7785-4038-Set?ref=itsabouttime.email).

### 3/ Earthen Releases The Summit MK2, Now A Ceramic Field Watch With Some Color

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/98/15/981552fd-1b67-4d3c-8ad7-fc38a52bf9fb/content/images/2026/10/earthen-1-1.png)

Ceramic can be made in almost any color, so it was always a little odd when brands make white or black ceramic watches. I mean, the same could be said about Earthen Company, a Hong Kong-based upstart that kind of blew away watch insiders with their incredible Summit, a 38mm ceramic field watch that came in under $1,000\. It was an incredibly cool watch, but a bit on the safe side with white and black ceramic cases. Well, now, Earthern is releasing the MK2 of the Summit with three new colors for the cases, with names that hint at what's going on: Dune Devil, Glade and Après-Bleu.

All three use the Summit MK2 case: 38mm wide, 10mm thick, ceramic for both case and bezel. Dune Devil is beige, Glade is dark green, Après-Bleu is navy. The MK2 platform adds a domed sapphire crystal, AR-coated inside and out. I tried one on in Geneva, and it has pretty much perfect proportions, made to look even smaller with its bulbous look. Water resistance is 100 meters, which is always appreciated.

Dune Devil pairs a brown dial with an orange ring at its edge and an orange accent on the crown, which gives me very much a 70s look. And I love the 70s. Glade has the whole dial done green lume set in a green case, muted in daylight and fully lit after dark. Love that, as well. Après-Bleu gets cream hands and markers over a navy dial, with a navy dial. The MK2 layout also swaps the Arabic 3, 6 and 9 for rectangular batons, keeps the inverted triangle at 12, and prints its markers in several raised layers.

Inside is the Miyota calibre 9039 beating at 4Hz with roughly 42 hours of power reserve. Dependable, unremarkable, right for the price. Each watch ships with two FKM rubber straps: orange and dark brown for Dune Devil, grey and green for Glade, navy and khaki for Après-Bleu.

The Earthen Company Summit MK2 Dune Devil, Glade and Après-Bleu are all priced at $899 without VAT, unchanged from earlier MK2 models. They are not limited editions, though Earthen is small and only makes so many. They have been known to sell out. See [more photos here](https://www.itsabouttime.email/earthen-releases-the-summit-mk2-now-a-ceramic-field-watch-with-some-color/) and the watches [on the Earthern website](https://earthen-co.com/collections?se%5Factivity%5Fid=181070987326&syclid=dav5p12p848s73acddu0&utm%5Fcampaign=Three+colours.+One+Summit.+Available+now.%5F181070987326&utm%5Fmedium=email&utm%5Fsource=shopify%5Femail).

### 4/ Patek Philippe Unveils Seven LEs In Milan, With A New Movement For The Platinum 5978P

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/98/15/981552fd-1b67-4d3c-8ad7-fc38a52bf9fb/content/images/2026/10/patek-milan-2026-1.jpg)

Patek Philippe's Watch Art Grand Exhibition opens in Milan on October 2 and as it has done for every one of these shows, Patek made a batch of watches for the occasion. These are very limited editions, all allocated to the Italian market and made in small batches with a lot of Italian hints about them. But these aren't just color changes, even though they do that as well. For example, the 5978P gets a brand new movement.

So let's start with the 5978P-010\. It is a hand-wound chronograph with a perpetual calendar. Yes, we've seen this combination before, but not with this calendar. Now it gets the instantaneous system Patek had previously kept for grand complications like the 5207, 5208 and 5308, which means that the day, date, month and leap year all change at once, in 30 milliseconds. The calendar is paired with the CH 29-535 PS, the column-wheel, horizontal-clutch chronograph from 2009, and the result is the new calibre CH 29-535 PS QI. The movement has 500 components, 33 jewels, a Gyromax balance with a Breguet overcoil at 4Hz (28,800 vph), and 55 to 65 hours of power reserve.

The case is fully polished platinum, 42mm wide and 14.2mm thick, with rectangular pushers, scalloped lugs, a concave bezel and the small diamonds Patek sets at six on every platinum watch. Water resistance is 30 meters. The navy dial has a textured middle and darkens to black at the edge, and the layout is familiar: day, date and month in windows across the top, leap year at four, moon at six, the 30-minute counter at three, small seconds at eight with a day/night indicator inside. The days and months are displayed in Italian. The watch comes on a navy composite with a textile motif, closed by a platinum triple-blade folding clasp. The 5978P-010 is limited to 120 pieces and priced at €318,100.

Moving on to the new 5531G duo. It's a world timer whose minute repeater chimes the local time of whichever city sits at 12 o'clock. It debuted as a New York exhibition watch in 2017 and joined the regular collection a year later. Milan gets two white gold versions. The 5531G-012 has a Grand Feu cloisonné enamel map of Milan in daylight at the center, while the 5531G-013 shows the same streets after dark. Around it are 24 city names in Italian, Milan done in red, and a 24-hour day/night ring. The case is 40.2mm wide and 11.49mm thick, with a lug-to-lug of 47.35mm, with openworked lugs and a Clous de Paris caseband that carries onto the repeater slide. Patek includes a solid back and a sapphire one. Inside is the self-winding calibre R 27 HU. The day version comes on light brown calfskin, the night version on midnight blue stitched in red. Each costs an incredible €794,600, and they are limited to 5 pieces in each color.

Then there's the Italian flag trio. These are three white gold Calatravas using the 38mm case of the 6007, with green, white and red lacquered dials, embossed with a carbon-fiber texture, applied white gold numerals and a tricolore detail on the alligator strap. Red is the 7047G-010, 10.24mm thick, using the self-winding calibre R 27 PS, which is a minute repeater with a small seconds. Limited to five pieces, and priced at €648,000\. Green is the 7147G-010, using the perpetual calendar ultra-thin calibre 240 Q, making the watch just 9.72mm thick, with day, date, month, leap year, a 24-hour hand and moon at six, the calendar printed in Italian. This is limited to 100 pieces, priced at €129,600\. White is the 7007G-010, a time-and-date Calatrava, 8.81mm thick, using the calibre 26 330 S C. Limited to 200 pieces at €44,800.

Last, and most affordable (if we dare use that word with Patek) is the Aquanaut 5167A-014\. It is the standard steel three-hander, 40.8mm wide and 8.1mm thick, with a sunburst blue dial that darkens toward the edge, the embossed Aquanaut grid, white gold numerals and lumed baton hands. New is the red minute track and a red seconds hand. The movement is the calibre 26 330 S C, beating at 4Hz, with 35 to 45 hours of power reserve (what a range), and a 21K gold rotor behind a printed sapphire back. It comes on a composite strap in the same blue with a steel folding clasp. Limited to 250 pieces and priced at €41,200.

All seven are allocated to Patek Philippe retailers in Italy.
